Although tennis had been an important part of my life since the age of 6 weeks, the opportunity to really play the game only came when Seb came to Witchford and suddenly I had access to a fantastic coach on a funded scheme which meant I could literally afford to turn up at whatever course was running – and I did!
Part way through the scheme Seb announced a plan to train up parents as coaches – and I thought I’d give a try and the rest is kind of history. I found I absolutely loved it – the after school clubs, going into schools to try and teach large groups of children in limited spaces with challenging equipment the elements of tennis, teaching tots and those at the other end of the age spectrum!
I’ve worked hard to gain qualifications including BCTA Level 2 and LTA Level 1 as well as more specific areas such as the Miss Hits programme. Children – particularly beginners – and boosting social players are the groups I tend to specialize in, but basically it’s all both enjoyable and intensely rewarding.
